Patriots’ McCourty Among the 10 Best at his Position

Devin McCourty is considered one of the NFl's best corners.

Back in April, ESPN posted Power Rankings for different positions in the NFL, and Patriots corner Devin McCourty was ranked as the 8th-best among his peers. This ranking, despite having played only NFL season, was not only a major “pat on the back” for McCourty’s performance in 2010, but also a sign that people are expecting big things in the future from the young corner. McCourty snagged seven interceptions, second-best in the NFL, and was elected to the Pro Bowl. USA Today has started a series of their own ranking the ten-best at each position, and McCourty appears yet again.

Where is Devin McCourty ranked?

USA Today ranked McCourty as the 7th-best corner in the NFL, one spot higher than ESPN’s rankings. If the NFL lockout has not set McCourty’s development back, he should return in 2011 as one of the NFL’s very best. He will have another year in Belichick’s system and should also have an improved cast around him, allowing his talents to shine even more. An overall better secondary and an improved pass rush should only serve to help Devin McCourty’s performance. Champ Bailey believes that McCourty is an up-and-coming corner, and likes what he has seen from the budding star.

Here is the complete USA Today list:

1. Darrelle Revis

2. Nnamdi Asomugha

3. Charles Woodson

4. Asante Samuel

5. Champ Bailey

6. Tramon Williams

7. Devin McCourty

8. Antoine Winfield

9. Brent Grimes

10. Aqib Talib
