Marcus Cannon Considered a Day Three Steal

The New England Patriots selected TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Cannon, considered a second- or third-round pick, fell to the fifth round due a diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a treatable form of cancer. He is expected to make a full recovery, so the Patriots took a chance at drafting him. NFL Network and NFL.com analysts got together and listed their favorite Day Three picks, and Marcus Cannon was among those mentioned.

I’m not convinced he’ll even play for the Patriots this season due to recent medical concerns, but when you have multiple picks in a round, you can make picks like this,” according to analyst Gil Brandt. “If he’s healthy this year, he’ll be great, and I think he’s a Pro Bowl-level player.”
