There have been lots of varying opinions of Bill Belichick’s decision yesterday to bench WR Wes Welker for the first offensive series of the game. The decision, while not stated publicly, has been rumored to be linked to Welker’s feet jokes directed at Rex Ryan after Belichick warned the players about smack talking in the media. Belichick has refused to comment on the matter and Wes referred to it as a “coach’s decision.” Vince Wilfork, while not questioning Belichick’s judgment, did not agree with the decision. The Patriots were able to move the ball fairly well on the drive but an errant pass was intercepted by David Harris, ending the promising drive. Did Welker’s benching affect the success of the drive? It didn’t seem like it. Did it mess with the psyche of the team before kick-off? That’s up for debate.
What do you think?
