The nominations for awards keep coming in for the New England Patriots. The latest nomination is not for a particular player but for a group of players: the offensive line. The Patriots’ o-line has been nominated for the Madden Most Valuable Protectors award along with the Chiefs, Giants, Falcons, and Saints. While the o-line has had some moving parts throughout the season, it has never lost its consistency of giving Tom Brady a nice pocket to throw from and some holes for BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead to run through. Left tackle Matt Light, center Dan Koppen, and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer have started every game this season. Guard Dan Connolly saw starting time first from the left side while filling in for Logan Mankins and then when Mankins returned, he moved over to the right side to fill in for Stephen Neal. Connolly missed the last two regular-season games and Ryan Wendell started in his place. You have to credit Offensive Line Coach Dante Scarnecchia for their stellar, consistent play.
The offensive line allowed Tom Brady to get sacked only 25 times this season, protecting him to have an MVP-caliber season. They also paved the way for the Patriots’ first 1,000-rusher since 2004 in Green-Ellis. To show your support for the unsung heroes of the Patriots’ offense, click here to vote.
