2010 Patriots Better Than 2007 Patriots

My recent article for NFL.com’s Blog Blitz has been posted an in it I discuss how the current Patriots are a better and more playoff-ready team than the record-breaking 2007 version. Here’s an example of how I build my case in the piece:

The average amount of points each team won by in the first and second halves of their respective seasons show a stark contrast between 2007 and 2010. In 2007, the Patriots won their first 8 games by an average of 25.5 points per game. However, their final 8 games were won by an average of only 13.9 points per game. This year, the Pats won 6 of their first 8 games by an average 12.5 points per game. Contrastingly, they have won their final 8 games by an average of 21.8 points per game. Those final 8 games were also against 5 playoff teams. The 2007 team’s final 8 games featured only 3 teams that made the playoffs that year.
