Former NFL wide receiver and current ESPN analyst Cris Carter was recently a guest on sports radio WEEI in Boston. During his appearance, Carter spoke about Deion Branch, and his comments were not very flattering.
“Deion disappears too much against regular corners. He disappears in the game,” Carter said. “He’s just a guy. Great players, they don’t get hurt as much as the other players. There’s a difference between great ones and good ones and average ones.”
Ouch. What was Branch’s reaction?
Branch, sticking to the Patriots’ way of doing things, had “no reaction.” He laughed off Carter’s comments and simply said, “That’s cool.” While laughing it off on the outside, you have to believe that Branch is going coming out in Monday’s game with an increased fire to prove Carter and other critics wrong. That’s usually how the Patriots go about things. They publicly laugh off comments, but you can see the added intensity during the game.
So thanks Cris Carter. Not that a player like Deion Branch needs any extra motivation to play well and beat the Jets Monday night, but I think you gave him a little extra. A little extra that could put him over the top.
