The Thanksgiving day victory was an excellent game for the Patriots and they proved that they truly are one of the best teams in the NFL. There were several players that stood out above the rest on Turkey Day:
Tom Brady - In what was probably his best performance of the year. Brady went 21 for 27 for 341 yards and 4 touchdowns. He finished the game with a perfect passer rating and showed how spectacular he can be at times. Brady really heated up in the second half and turned the Patriots first half deficit into a Patriots blowout win.
Deion Branch - His 3 receptions for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns proved once again how intelligent Bill Belichick is. The Randy Moss for Branch trade has worked very well for this team and Branch has a great chemistry with Brady that is showing up at important moments.
Wes Welker – Welker had his biggest game since the first week of the season. It was great to see him working hard and getting a lot of touches without Moss to open things up. Welker finished the game with 8 receptions for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Devin McCourty – McCourty had his best game of the year against one of the better receivers in the NFL. Calvin Johnson had 4 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown but McCourty came away with 2 interceptions, 2 tackles and 2 assisted tackles. McCourty wasn’t on Johnson for the entire game but his play certainly helped to contain one of the best receivers in the league.
Jerod Mayo – Mayo’s 8 tackles, 4 assisted tackles and his excellent leaping pass defense that almost turned into an interception helped the Patriots to contain the Lions running game and prevent short underneath passes from turning into long completions.
