Yesterday, it was reported that K Shayne Graham was being signed by the Patriots to fill in for Stephen Gostkowski until Gostkowski’s quad was back to full health. The Boston Herald reported that Gostkowski had a strained quad and that he would be out for about two weeks. Unfortunately, the injury is far worse than what was originally reported. It is now being reported that Gostkowski has a torn quad muscle and is lost for the season. He was placed on injured reserve today and now Shayne Graham is the Patriots’ kicker for the remainder of the season. He will wear number 5. Graham has some experience working with new long snapper Matt Katula, who were both in training camp with the Ravens this past summer. That should help ease the transition as the kicking portion of the Patriots’ special teams has a whole new look now for the rest of the season.
