According to ESPN Boston and the Boston Herald, Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins is set to return to the team tomorrow. Recall that Mankins has sat out of all team offseason activities and has not played a down of football thus far in a contract dispute with the team. It is being reported that the two sides have yet to come to terms on a new contract and that Mankins will sign his restricted fee agent tender of $1.54 million. If Mankins had reported on time to training camp, he would have received approximately double that figure. It is unlikely that Mankins will immediately start when he returns as he has to get into football shape, but it is possible he could return in time to suit up against the Steelers in two weeks, or the Colts the following week. Mankins return is huge at this point in the season. The Pats, already owners of the best record in football, are getting a Pro Bowl player about midway through the season. Dan Connolly has done a solid job filling in and will provide excellent depth once Mankins is starting again.
