History repeating with Mankins' agent

The Boston Herald’s Patriots blog, The Rap Sheet, has a very interesting article regarding guard Logan Mankins’ agent, Frank Bauer, and his history of threatening statements towards teams to expedite contract negotiations. Bauer used a lot of the same language to get coach Lovie Smith a new deal with the Bears in 2007 that he is using now to try and get Mankins a new deal with the Pats, or at least a deal that is to his liking. The difference this time is the client also spoke up, and if Mankins truly is upset and wants out, he’ll probably be out. However, this article puts the comments into the perspective that it may be a ploy to force a contract. I’m not certain that the Pats appreciate the comments, even if they were a ploy.

If you have boycotted the Herald due to writer John Tomase and his inaccurate story about Super Bowl taping during SpyGate, I would give them another look. Tomase is no longer on the Patriots beat and Ian Rapoport, the author of the above story, does a pretty good job.
