Pats fans ready to show Mankins the door

The backlash from the Logan Mankins story yesterday has been swift and severe from Patriots fans. Just in case you haven’t heard, Logan Mankins has demanded a trade and indicated that he feels the Pats didn’t keep their word in the negotiations over a long-term contract. Between his public tongue lashing of the team and the story that broke later that the Pats offered him a Top-5 contract for guards averaging $7 million per year, the fans had heard enough. Mankins is now being viewed as foolish and greedy by a large majority of Patriots fans.  Need proof? Check out the comments in the stories here, here, here, and here.

Bill Belichick, unlike Mankins, is refusing to comment on the ongoing (Are they ongoing?) contract negotiations and prefers to keep everything in-house. Mankins’ teammates are also staying away from the situation and are not commenting. It’s a shame to see things get to this point. Unfortunately, I think this relationship is now irreparable between the Patriots and Logan Mankins, though stranger things have happened in the NFL.

I’m retired from the Army after 20 years, working full time and can’t afford to by Patriots tickets. I have a hard time feeling bad for a guy turning down 7 mil a season. I wish Mr. Mankins the best of luck but I can’t sympathize.

I understand completely and I have to agree. Especially in today’s economy, turning down a salary like that is a little hard for us working folks to understand.

Thank you for your service to our country.
