Above is some video highlights from Devin McCourty’s career at Rutgers. As you can see, he is a beast on special teams. Below is footage from Devin’s Pro Day at Rutgers, and you can see that he does look very smooth in all of his movements. He’s got fluid hips, which is important to the Pats especially. I remember Scott Pioli in the past discussing how important footwork and fluid hips are when scouting corners, which is why they tend to stay away from the taller corners. Taller corners tend to be stiffer in their movements.
Finally, below is a link to a Draft Capsule video by ESPN’s Todd McShay (embedding was disabled). McShay believes that McCourty can develop into a number one corner. If that’s the case, the Patriots will be pretty stacked at the position for the foreseeable future, especially if Wheatley and Wilhite ever develop and Darius Butler continues to develop. With Sergio Kindle still available tomorrow in Round Two, I have hope that he or a similar pass rusher will be selected by the Pats.
