Mock Draft Central
2010 Coaching staff taking shape
The 2010 Patriots coaching staff is beginning to take shape with an addition and a subtraction announced today. Unfortunately, one of those announcements was not about the still-vacant defensive coordinator’s position. The Patriots did add former Notre Dame defensive backs coach Corwin Brown to the coaching staff. While not defining his role publicly yet, it is expected that he will work with the defensive backs, possibly either as defensive backs coach or in a more specific role, like corner or safety coach. Besides working under Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame, Brown has other Patriots connections.
Patriots Mock Draft Roundup
The 2010 NFL mock draft season has begun and casual fans have joined the “experts” in trying to predict where college’s best NFL prospects will go. I don’t like trying to put together a mock draft until after the Scouting Combine where the prospects actually run drills and guys unexpectedly shoot up and down the boards based on workouts and interviews. Add to that the fact that we don’t know what needs teams will fill in free agency, these mocks don’t mean too much at the moment. However, it’s still fun to look at and wonder, and I have to [...]
Support for Pepper Johnson Grows
Bill Belichick still hasn’t named a new defensive coordinator, nor has he given any indication as to who he’s considering (not that anyone should be surprised about that). The two presumed internal candidates have been detailed on this website and we currently have a poll running as to who you think Belichick should hire. My vote is with Pepper Johnson, and he is also currently leading in the poll at the time of this article with 53% of the vote. He also got a boost recently from a familiar face: former Pats defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. In a conversation with [...]
Wilfork Clears the Air
Vince Wilfork appeared on WEEI Sports Radio’s “Dale and Holley Show” today and was pretty upfront and honest about his contract situation (or lack thereof). It also seems like it’s “No more Mr. Nice Guy.” His tone was stern and and you can almost feel his frustration about the whole situation in his words. You can listen to the audio by clicking here.
When he first signed with the Pats as a first round draft pick, he was unhappy that he had to sign a 6-year deal, which was completely within the rules at the time. However, he signed it and [...]
Brady and Light Open Up
With no games to play since being eliminated from the playoffs Wild Card weekend, QB Tom Brady and LT Matt Light have gotten around to charity events and TV appearances. While out on the circuit, they have seemed a little more loose-lipped than during the season when they are under Belichick’s gag order. Tom Brady was the most revealing at a charity event for the Boston Centers for Youth and Families, where he opened up about his injuries, his contract, and a Patriot-less post season.
On his injuries…
“I’m feeling good. I really am. I’m excited I don’t have to have surgery [...]
ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss has recently posted profile pieces on the two internal candidates for the defensive coordinator position: Matt Patricia and Pepper Johnson. They are excellent reads and if you’re interested in who these candidates are, I suggest clicking on the names in the previous sentence to read the full articles. Here’s what I took from the two pieces:
Matt Patricia: Patricia is a brilliant, brilliant guy. He’s rocket-scientist smart. No really, he is. He went to school for aeronautical engineering before deciding to settle on coaching as a career choice. He appears to be a real X’s and O’s kind [...]
My divisional round picks were not the greatest, going 1 for 4 on the games (though I did get the right score, but wrong winning team in the Chargers/Jets game). I’ll put my prognostication hat back on and see if it’s cleared out the cobwebs this time around.
AFC Championship
Colts 24, Jets 17. My gut instinct is to go with the better defense, but Peyton Manning has shown the ability to slice and dice a good defense before. I think that one thing being overlooked here is the Colts’ defense, which is no slouch. They have a knack for coming up [...]
In Defense of Tom Brady
New England sports fans being New England sports fans, they have been venting their anger (completely understandable) about how the season ended. Along with that, some of the bandwagoners and fickle fans have decided to lay the blame on QB Tom Brady. Granted, his last game of the season was also his worst of the season. But the “let’s dump Brady” calls are downright ridiculous. It would be the equivalent of the Red Sox infamous trade of Babe Ruth that had long haunted the ball club. Trade a franchise, record-setting quarterback who has won you three Super Bowls while still [...]
And then there were three…
For those of you dying to get one more glimpse of Tom Brady before the NFL season comes to a close, you’re going to be disappointed. Brady has pulled out of the Pro Bowl due to injury. His injury details were not given, but it has been rumored that he has battled shoulder, rib, and finger injuries throughout the season. Score one for Charlie Casserly? Brady joins two other Patriots who have pulled out of the Pro Bowl due to injury (Wes Welker and his replacement, Randy Moss), leaving only three Patriots left to play in the NFL’s all-star game. [...]
