The Pats have released the names of the players who have been downgraded to “out” for tomorrow’s game, and it’s not good. Defensive linemen Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren, and Myron Pryor, running back Fred Taylor, guard Stephen Neal, and tackle Nick Kaczur are all out for tomorrow’s game. That means that the defense will be without its top run stoppers, as well as one of the top backups for the defensive line. Mike Wright will likely start at defensive end and rookie Ron Brace will likely see plenty of time at nose tackle along with Titus Adams. Other than that, Jarvis Green will be starting on the line. Hybrid DE/OLB players such as Adalius Thomas, Tully Banta-Cain, and Derrick Burgess may also see time at DE to spell the Wright and Green.
On offense, Dan Connolly will likely start at guard and rookie tackle Sebastian Vollmer will start at right tackle in place of Kaczur, which may not be a bad thing. Vollmer has been very impressive as a rookie and I’m looking forward to see how the line plays with Matt Light at left tackle and Vollmer at RT for an extended amount of time. Vollmer was in and out at RT during last week’s game, and did extremely well. Taylor’s absence is not a major factor with Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis available to play.
An already tough game just got a little tougher. Let’s see if the team can rally and come away with a win in Buffalo.
