Stats Check on Pats/Texans

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Preview, Houston Texans, Patriots, Stats | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here’s where the Patriots and Texans stand overall after 15 NFL games on the stats sheet. I think that while stats don’t amount to much when trying to predict a game, it does illuminate some strengths and weaknesses and at this point in the season, tend to hold true during the game, as “you are who you are.” All of these stats were taken from the NFL.com team stats page.
Offense

Total Offense in Yards Per Game (YPG): 2nd Pats (402.7), 5th Texans (379.3)
Points Per Game: 7th Pats (26.7), 11th Texans (23.6)
Passing YPG: 4th Pats (279.5), 2nd Texans (290.6)
Rushing YPG: 11th Pats [...]

Likes/Dislikes of Pats/Jags

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: Boston Sports, Game Analysis, Game Review, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Likes and Dislikes, Patriots | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here’s what I liked and disliked from the Patriots/Jaguars game this past Sunday. It was hard to find much wrong with such a complete performance but I gave it the college try.
What I Liked

Tom Brady looking like Tom Brady. It’s been an up and down year for Tom, but Sunday’s performance was among his best of the season. Brady finished 23 of 26 for 267 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Patriots need Brady playing like his old self if they want to make a Super Bowl run, and they can do it with performances like this.
Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk. [...]

Patriots in the Pro Bowl

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: Boston Sports, Breaking News, Patriots, Pro Bowl, Stats | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Pro Bowl rosters are set. There are 4 Patriots on the AFC Pro Bowl roster:

QB Tom Brady
WR Wes Welker
G Logan Mankins
NT Vince Wilfork

All of the players selected to the roster are certainly deserving players. Only Mankins and Wilfork are starters. I was most happy to see Wes Welker make the roster as the fourth receiver. The other receivers are Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Marshall. Other quarterbacks include Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers. I was a little surprised that Tom Brady made the cut over Matt Schaub, though Brady has been able to lead his team to more [...]

Pro Bowlers Announced Tonight

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: Boston Sports, Patriots, Pro Bowl | COMMENTS: None Yet

For the benefit of those of you with NFL Network, they will be hosting a Pro Bowl Selection Show at 7 pm tonight. It is the only place you can hear first about who was selected to the Pro Bowl. I will be post as soon as I can with the Patriots who made the team and the obligatory “snub” list.

To play or not to play…

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Preview, Houston Texans, Injuries, Injury Reports, Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Playoffs, Patriots | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

…that is the question, and I’m not talking about the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots, namely Bill Belichick,  have a decision to make this week on whether they want to give some players a rest before the playoffs or continue to build on the momentum they’ve got going.  After beating Jacksonville yesterday and clinching the division, their playoff picture was pretty set. However, the Wild Card teams are still up in the air, so when the ball gets kicked on Sunday in Houston, the Pats will have no idea who they might be playing the following Sunday on Wild Card Weekend. Patriots clinch division

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Analysis, Game Review, Gameday, Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Playoffs, Patriots | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New England Patriots handily defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 35 – 7 and have clinched the AFC East. They currently hold the third seed in the AFC playoff brackets despite Cincinnati winning today due to the strength-of-schedule tie-breaker. The offense exploded to 28 first half points and then controlled the ball the second half to seal the victory. While the offense only scored one touchdown in the second half, they were able to move the ball and eat up clock to put away the game. Tom Brady finished 23/26 for 267 yards and 4 touchdowns, a nearly perfect day. The [...]

Pats dominate first half

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Analysis, Gameday, Jacksonville Jaguars, Patriots | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New England Patriots have dominated the first half of the game today and are leading the Jacksonville Jaguars 28 – 0. Tom Brady is looking like he did at the mid-season mark when the offense was putting up boatloads of points. So far, Brady is 14/16 for 150 yards and 3 TDs, two of which went to Randy Moss. TE Chris Baker caught the other touchdown pass. The running game has also looked good, with the only miscue being a Laurence Maroney fumble at the goal line (again). Potentially the score could be much worse had Maroney not fumbled. [...]

Pats can clinch the East Sunday

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Preview, Injury Reports, Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Game Prediction, NFL Playoffs, Patriots | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New England Patriots can clinch the AFC East Sunday with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. A win guarantees the division crown and a home playoff game. The Jags won’t be an easy win for sure, especially if both Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren (both questionable) sit out again this week. The Pats have to try and contain Maurice Jones-Drew, the mighty mouse of the NFL. In addition, they face a QB who can scramble in David Garrard, which puts some added pressure on the defense. Garrard has the potential to be really good or be really bad, and [...]

Stats Check for Pats/Jags

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Game Preview, Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Playoffs, Patriots, Stats | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New England Patriots will host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, and a win will clinch the AFC East. With that in mind, let’s see where the Patriots and Jaguars rank offensively and defensively in the NFL after last weekend’s games. All of these stats and more can be found on NFL.com’s stats page.
Total Offense (Yards Per Game)
Patriots, 2nd, 398.3 ypg……….Jaguars, 15th, 341.6 ypg (I find it interesting that despite Sunday’s poor output offensively that the Pats still rank 2nd in the league behind the Saints)
3rd Down Conversion Rate
Patriots, 8th, 43%……….Jaguars, 6th, 45%
Passing Yards Per Game
Patriots, 4th, 280.4 ypg……….Jaguars, 18th, [...]

Likes/Dislikes of Pats/Bills

AUTHOR: jamie | IN: AFC East, Boston Sports, Buffalo Bills, Game Analysis, Game Review, Jacksonville Jaguars, Likes and Dislikes, NFL Playoffs, Patriots | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Here’s my likes and dislikes from the Patriots’ win over the Buffalo Bills Sunday:
What I Liked

Laurence Maroney’s hard running continues. Maroney is finally stringing together games that resemble that of a first-round draft pick. If he can parlay this into the postseason and into next season, the offense overall should improve. He ran around and over people.
The Pass Rush. The Patriots garnered 6 sacks against an injury-riddled Buffalo offensive line. Sure, part of that may have been Buffalo, but part of it also was good execution by the pass rushers and…
The “56″ Defense. The Patriots several times employed a 5-linebacker, [...]
