Could Cassel Be The Newest Chief, or Buccaneer?

by Breaking News

QB Matt Cassel Now A Buccaneer?I’m still working on the details involving the “major announcement” the New England Patriots were suppose to be making this evening.  At first it was to believed that Matt Cassel was headed to the Kansas City Chiefs.  But hold on could Cassel be the newest Chief, or Buccaneer?  It’s rumored that Cassel might be involved in the deal with Mike Vrabel going to KC.  But WAIT, it could be that he’s headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers possibly in a three team deal involving the Pats, Chiefs and Bucs!

This new deal is rumored to involve the Bucs, 1st round draft pick this year (#19) and their second round pick in the 2010 draft (conditional),in exchange for Cassel.  With NE sending Vrabel to KC for a draft pick, and KC getting another player.  Also rumored is that TB is working details on a  new contract roughly worth close to $ 30 million for four-years for Cassel.

Stay tuned for any further updates to this speculation.  But for all we know this could just be another rumor that doesn’t pan out. More on this later if and when anything happens.  Until then continue enjoying the updates on all of the day’s happening.

Well sports fans what are your comments or thoughts on this possible deal going down?  Good, bad or indifferent, let me know!

Matt;

I know I just saw the reports about the deal being "agreed" to but nothing's official at the moment.  We'll have to wait and we what happens.

Hmmm the third team could it be the Bucs trying to get into the deal or just break the deal up?  Gotta love the NFL!

shefter reported what i just wrote on NFL network just in case you were wondering.

There may be a third team trying to swoop in if the contract cant get done...I guess the trade is agreed to but things could still change....O MAN agreed to does not mean done

yes thats what i said....it has to be a 2nd next year for him and Vrabel.  I'm sure its performance based insensitives that will be easy to achieve.  O man cant wait for the details...this is still sweet.  that 2nd is basically a late first this year.

Matt;

MC to KC for a 2nd this yr and conditional next year.  Hmm not liking the deal if that's all it is!  Have to wait and see what's involved.

DraftKing;

I'm sure that the entire hold-up on the deal was most likely the Chiefs and Cassel working out a new deal.  They should lock him up to a 4/5 yr deal while they can.

Patriots trade Cassel to Chiefs

Wow.
Less than a week ago, I opined at SportingNews.com that the Chiefs and the Patriots wouldn't be able to work out a trade for quarterback Matt Cassel because each side would be overly concerned about the perception that the other got the better side of the bargain.
So much for that.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the deal is done -- Cassel has been traded from the Patriots to the Chiefs.
More details and reaction to come.

Hey Matt Shefter is reporting cassel to the chiefs for a 2nd this year and a conditional pick next year.

Keep in mind that Cassel is going to make $14.65 million guaranteed for 2009.  He has a strong negotiating position relative to any potential trades.

i know there is speculation on tbo.com but the source was this website. i have my tv on and im constantly checking all tampa bay or nfl related sites for any rumors regarding this. there is absolutely nothing i can find...

Now that's one report I'd love to get my hands on.  Someone PLEASE tell me there's a link for it.  Would perk me right up seeing that.......

That's going to be fun fun seeing how this plays out.  Lol, but you never know what will happen next in the NFL.

wow you just totally got my hopes up..

Yes the broadcaster is using your site as his source

Rob;

You saying the broadcaster is using my site as his source?  Or am I just that tired my eyes are working agaisnt me now.....

The broadcaster has said his source is this report. So he has also speculated that Cassel to Tampa, Draft picks to New England, and an unknown player to KC

Rob;

Any mention of who the players might be or what the deal is?  I was about to call it a  night but I guess I'm sticking around alittle longer now.

Rob;

Thanks for the heads up I do appreciate it.  Ah, that makes me a lot better lol.  Can't wait to hear what it might be now.

*Correction i put player when i meant team

Matt,

Thought i'd let you know that a local television network in Tampa has confirmed this report. They are saying the same thing 3-player deal involving the Bucs, Patriots, And Chiefs.

Rob;

Hey, no problem anytime Rob.  I think it's a great move for TB to get Cassel.  If that were to happen, time will tell.  Besides it would really make the game in London next year with NE and TB interesting and fun to watch.

Matt,
Thanks for claryfing the story. Personally as a Buccaneer fan i would love to see Cassel go to the bucs. Quaterback is the one position im most uncomfortable with on Tampa

Rob;

LOL, there's about that same number of fans in NE and KC waiting for that same answer.  I think if it were a 3 way deal it would be huge for all teams.  TB gets Cassel to go with K2 and Bryant.  KC gets Vrabel and something else, NE gets much needed draft picks to build their defense.

Rob;

It's both actually, I honestly don't believe the trade was suppose to be "leaked" this early.  Something doesn't quite "fit" with it.  I've also seen reports out of Boston (the Globe) that says the deal isn't finilized yet.  The whole speculation of MC going to Tampa just might be a die-hard Bucs fans overactive mind.

Or maybe there is actually a possibility of a 3 way deal in the works with NE/KC and TB.  A lot is unknown and unclear at this time.  There's also "nothing" being released from either the KC or NE camp's that back up this deal as being done.

We should have the complete picture soon, but then again we are talking about the Patriots and Scott Pioli who just love to keep people in the dark with things.

Matt,
I'll be honest there's about 10,000 buc fans waiting for your anwser

Matt,
Is this information based on your opinion or are you actually getting this info from sources with knowledge to the subject. Please let me know.

o man just the thought of your post is incredible.  I hear ya on the KC stuff.  Tom Curren thought they didnt announce it yet because Cassel's agent may be working out a deal.

C.P.;

Sorry was trying to say that NE/KC and TB might be working on a 3 way deal.  With NE sending Vrabel to KC for a draft pick, Cassel going to TB for draft picks, and another piece of the puzzle that's unknown at this time.  It's been a long day and the minds wondering quickly so getting my point out earlier was mixed up earlier.

Matt;

It would make things a heck of a lot easier for us in rebuilding by trading Cassel.  I'd prefer to get a 1st rnd this yr and maybe a 2/3rd next year or this year it doesn't matter to me.  As long as we get at least 2 good picks I'm good with any deal.

The entire deal with Vrabel still hasn't been disclosed so that's why I'm inclined to think something's in the works still.  Either MC to KC with Vrabel or maybe a 3 way deal, not sure.

If it was Tampa it would be nice to have both the 19th and the 23rd picks in this year's draft.  Use both on defensive players and we'd be looking good.  Or split it and go 1 offenseive and 1 defensive.  Plus we have a 2nd round pick this year from San Diego in a deal last year on top of our own 2nd rnd pick.  So we could be sitting pretty if they trade MC.

There would have to be three teams involved in a single trade to call it a "three team deal".  You've described two separate trades, one of which has been confirmed and one that is purely speculation.  Apparently, you don't know what's going on, and you also don't know what to properly call the things you're speculating about.

Hell yes.  Id be content with what the Texans traded for Shaub.  Two 2nds.  I believe Cassel is a better player and has way more game film to see so I really cant see us getting any less than that.  I really see him going to either the Seahawks or the Bucs.  I just have a weird feeling about Pioli snagging him and dont see it happening. Id take a one and a two from both of those teams in a heartbeat that i mentioned above. Say a 09 2nd and a 010 1st...i love the draft and would welcome as many picks as they can get.  Most teams it takes them 5 years to retool well do it in a season. haha yess cant wait for the picks.

Matt;

LOL, I agree with you 100% about on the head exploding.  What are your thought if a deal does work out.  Would you be happy to see MC traded and NE getting a couple of picks?

thanks Matt D. for the update.  Im hopin something goes down soon before my head explodes.

It looks like the 6 pm announcement was just to introduce Fred Taylor as the newest Patriot. I'm still working on anything involving Cassel being traded.

Matt;

Something tells me that Matt Cassel is on the move, but to where I'm not sure.  With all the rumors and comments going around it's crazy.  I still think there's more to the Vrabel to KC deal that we know about at this time.  Even the KC fans are hearing the same things.  What will come from all of these rumors no one knows for sure at this time.

I've heard Vrabel to KC for an undisclosed draft pick.  I've heard Vrabel to KC with Cassel going to Tampa for a 1st this year and 2nd rnd in 2010. Is it a 3 way deal, or are they going to be seperate deals, no one knows yet.

Remember Pioli's sitting in KC and he's great at the "quieting info" game just like Belichick is.  Please stick with me, we all will know soon enough I hope.

i agree ctpatsfan77.

Its crap.

If you're going off a post from NFL.com, you're probably being snookered; Fox 13 in Tampa isn't reporting anything on Cassel.

What was the deal with this major announcement you were talking about at 6:00pm?  I know I heard this rumor too(bucs 1st and 2nd) posted everywhere by some sicko and it ahs made its way onto message boards on nfl.com, espn.com and anywhere in between.  Also Tom E. Curren said the trade with KC may go down.  Your thoughs Matt.

hahaha;

Nope, not in my head just from what I'm hearing and seeing.  I can say my heads about to explode from all of it, lol.

Those sources in your head at work again, huh.

JB;
That would be a huge move for all or any of those clubs.  For the Bucs it gives them a good starting QB to throw to Winslow and Bryant.  On the Pats side it would give them the picks to strengthen their defense in this yr's draft.  Helps KC out with a good known LB in Vrabel also.  We'll have to wait and see what happens....

Wow, that would be huge.
