Well we all knew this one was coming. My first thoughts are OMG, another one’s gone from the New England Patriots. Only a day after the Patriots lost Josh McDaniels who left to became the head coach in Denver. It’s now official that former VP of player personnel Scott Pioli, has joined the Kansas City Chiefs as their new GM. Pioli’s first move most likely will be firing current Chiefs coach Herm Edwards.
The signing of Pioli is great for the Chief’s and their organization, their fans and possibly for Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo who’s Giants were just bounced from the play-offs this past weekend, should be the front runner for their new coach. Look for Pioli, to act quickly and have a new coach in place within a week or so. Having a new GM and head coach will allow the Chiefs time to settle in and prepare for the NFL’s 2009 Draft coming in April.
In order to restore some form of greatness to that organization, the Chiefs needed the best man for the job. And it was no question that Pioli can and most likely will restore pride, to a once great team. Just look what he’s helped New England build in his nine year stay with us. 3 Super Bowl titles, a united team and a great ensemble of coaches and players.
The NFL had better watch out for the Chiefs. The AFC West had better take notice, the Chiefs won’t be pushovers any more. Give them another season and they will be right back in the thick of things. I’ll go out on a limb and say this, Kansas City WILL win at least 8 games next season. And make the play-offs within two years.
We hate to see you leave Pioli, but we wish you all the best in your new adventure. KC fans can rejoice and take new found pride in their club. Best of luck to you Scott Pioli, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
