Just a quick note on a few happenings right now involving our very own New England Patriots team. The player carousel continues for the Patriots as one returns and another’s gone. Matt Cassel is back with the team for today at least, following the death of his father on Monday. Cassel arrived at the Patriots practice facility at San Jose State University early this afternoon. If he plays is still another question that won’t be answered for a few more days. In the event that Cassel is unable to play, backup quarterback Kevin O’Connell will be under center. Yes the rookie just might get his first NFL start vs the Oakland Raiders this weekend. No matter who’s under center, the Patriots need to establish their style of football early on. If they do that, it will remove so much pressure from either quarterback.
And now for the bad news, it looks like linebacker Tedy Bruschi just might be gone for the rest of the regular season due to an knee injury. Bruschi who injured the knee in the team’s victory over Seattle last week is just another name added to the now very long list of injured players. The Patriots have a decision to make now, allow him the time he needs to recover and possibly have him around for the playoffs. Or to place him on the injured reserve list and end his season. Either choice will be tough, because if the Pats make the playoffs it won’t be the same without him on the active roster. But then again in order to make the playoffs they need healthy players. No matter what happens what’s important here is that he fully recovers for either next season or to enjoy his future life football.
